johnson democrat, john was born on a southern state, lincoln republican lincoln was born in a northside sate,both unionists, lincoln chose johnson to demonstrate unity
What’s the difference between Presidential Reconstruction (1865-1867?) and Congressional Reconstruction (1867-1877?)?
presidential gave mercy congressional blamed the south
What was controversial about Alexander Stephens? Who was he and what happened to him after the Civil War?
he was vice president of the CSA, after the war the union came back together and he became a congressman, everyone thought he was a trader
Freedman’s Bureau
an agency of early Reconstruction, assisting freedmen in the South.

A hate group against African Americans that did many things to threaten blacks such as burning crosses, and sometimes even commiting murder. Other targets included, Jewish people

15th Amendment
Granted african american men the right to vote

God given rights, the gov can’t take them away without due process.
Radical Republicans
More extreme than normal Republicans
wanted to punish the slaves, wanted to insure their rights for former slaves,
