recognizing antigens Flashcards
what happens after an invader is destroyed by a macrophage
its antigens go to the surface of the macrophage, then the macrophage couples with helper T cell which read antigen shape and release lymphokine
what does the release of lymphokine do to B cells
it causes B cells to divide and start to produce anti bodies
what else does the helper T cell activate
it also activates killer T cells
what do killer T cells do
- it destroys invading cells and body cells that are infected by viruses by puncturing their cell membranes
- can also destroy cancer cells if they have antigen that are different from normal body cells
what does the suppressor T cell do
it signals the immune system to shut down when the infection is fought off
what do phagocytes do
it cleans up any dead or injured B and T cells
what do memory cells do
they produce copies of invader antigens so that they can be more easily identifiable in the future
