Recitation Day Flashcards
What is the goal of science?
The goal of science is to describe how the natural world works.
List the basic tools of science.
Observation, experimentation, and reasoning.
What is energy?
Energy is that which holds everything together and enables every process to happen.
State the Law of Conservation of Energy.
Energy can be neither created nor destroyed only changed in form.
List six forms of energy.
Electromagnetic radiation, kinetic energy, gravitational potential energy, chemical potential energy, thermal energy, and nuclear energy.
List the eight regions of the electromagnetic spectrum from longest wavelength to shortest.
AM radio, FM radio, microwaves, infrared light, visible light, ultraviolet light, x-rays, and gamma rays.
What is the velocity of an object?
The velocity of an object is its speed and direction.
What is the acceleration of an object?
The acceleration of an object is the rate at which it’s velocity changes.
What is a force?
Hey force is a push or pool having both magnitude and direction.
State newtons first law of motion.
An object at rest remains at rest and an object in motion remains in motion unless acted upon by a force.
Summarize newtons second law of motion.
F=ma (Force equals mass times acceleration.)
State newtons third law of motion.
For every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction.
