reciprocal inhibition Flashcards
1
Q
reciprocal inhibition
A
relaxation of muscles on one side of a joint to accommodate contraction on the other side. In some allied health disciplines, this is known as reflexive antagonism. the central nervous system sends a message to the agonist’s muscle to contract.
2
Q
Belly
A
the thickest part of the muscle
3
Q
Tendon
A
attaches to the muscle
4
Q
Fasciculus
A
a group of muscle fibres (bundle)
5
Q
Fibre
A
hair-like strand with nerve attachment
6
Q
Myofibril
A
very fine contractile strands that make up a fibre
7
Q
Sacromere
A
smallest contracting unit - makes up a myofibril
8
Q
actin/myosin
A
microscopic protein filaments that slide over each other to enable contraction. makeup sarcomere
