Receptors Flashcards

1
Q

Joint Mechanoreceptors

A

Nerves located in the ligament, capsule of the joints
Sensory receptors that provide proprioceptive sense
Function: communicate with the brain to tell where the body is in space; helps with responses to prevent injury

Q

Type I

A

Postural
Located in joint capsules
Stimulated by all grades of movement
Gate Pain
Postural, slow adapting
Fire constantly providing the brain with position of head and extremities
Highest concentration in subcranial region

Q

Type II

A
Dynamic
Located in joint capsules
Stimulated by all grades of movement
Gate Pain
Turn on/off fast, provide information to the body on direction of movement, change in direction, change in velocity
Rapidly adapting, turn on during change

Q

Type III

A

Inhibitive
Located in capsular ligaments
Muscle inhibition, located in ligaments that surround capsules
Capsules need to be stretched (at least grade III) to fire these receptors
Reflex loop, receptors cause muscle relaxation when activated

Located in most tissues
Fired by pain receptors activated by injury/inflammation

Q

Golgi tendon organ

A

Sensory organ located in tendon

Function: respond to tension by causing a reflex relaxation/inhibition to stretch and relax the muscle
