Classification of Movement Flashcards

1
Q

Classical, Osteokinematic

A

Active or passive; traditional description of movement
Active: motions secondary to voluntary muscle action
Passive: motions that occur when joint is passively moved thru a ROM
Ex: FB, BB, SB, ROT

Q

Accessory, Arthrokinematic

A

Motions that accompany classical movements, essential to normal ROM and painless function; consist of component motions & joint plays
Component motion: motion that takes place in a joint complex or related joint to facilitate a particular active motion; typically under voluntary control, typically a glide movement and tied to a specific classical ROM; can detect dysfunctions within a joint that are limiting active motion
Joint play: movements not under voluntary control which occur only in response to an outside force such as a distraction; tied to all classical ROM

Q

Manipulation/Mobilization

A

Guide to PT Practice: A manual therapy technique compromised of a continuum of skilled passive movement to the joints and/or related soft tissues that are applied at varying speeds and amplitudes including a small amplitude, high velocity therapeutic movement.
