  • financial crisis –> high retrenchment rates –> lowered income for travelling, people cut back on spending
  • e.g. btw 2008 and 2010, many world economies experienced a recession
  • in Egypt, international tourists –> stayed shorter periods of time, spending less per day & searching for cheaper accommodation

  • a state of disagreement btw diff people that result in wars
  • pose dangers to tourists and residents –> disrupt services & cause infrastructure damage –> cause tourists to postpone/cancel travel plans
  • e.g. governments of most countries banned citizens from visiting Libya
  • between Mar - Oct in 2011, no commercial flights to Libya

A
  • a sudden and widespread occurrence of a disease in an area
  • do not want to risk infection by contagious disease –> do not travel
  • gov. may be issued to advise tourists to not travel to places w/ outbreaks
  • e.g. SARS in 2003, SG’s tourism hurt by nearly 70% in early April
