Rearrangements And Complementation Flashcards
Pericentric inversion
Includes centromere in the inverted region
Paracentric
Centromere is not included in the inverted region
Inversion
Chromosome rearrangement in which a segment of a chromosome flips 180 and is reversed end to end
Two types:
Pericentric
Paracentric
Balanced gamete
One complete haploid set of genes
(No duplications or deletions)
No crossover in the inversion loop
Unbalanced gametes
Deficient for some genes and/or duplicated for others
Cross over in the inverted region
What is produced when a balanced and unbalanced gamete fertilize?
Produce inviable zygotes
How do you get a balanced gamete with an inversion?
When there is no crossover in the inversion loop
A crossover in the inverted region produces what type of gamete?
Unbalanced
Reciprocal Translocations
