Reagents Flashcards
Things you can turn an acid chloride into
Ketone, aldehyde, amide, ester, anhydride
SOCl2
Turns a carboxylic acid into an acid chloride
Turn acid chloride into amide
Add amine
Acid chloride to ester
Add alcohol or phenol
Acid chloride to anhydride
Add carboxylate
Acid chloride to ketone
Add cuprate in THF, and H2O
Acid chloride to aldehyde
Add H2 over a Pd/C and quinoline
What does DIBAL do?
Reduces things down to aldehydes
Lactone in DIBAL and H3O+
Turns the carbonyl into an alcohol for a major product, and a primary alcohol on one end and aldehyde on the other for a minor product
Aldehyde + Grignard and H3O+
Adds Grignard to the aldehyde hydrogen, and changes carbonyl to an alcohol
MnO2 in DCM (include limitations)
Turns the alcohol into a ketone, but normally not for primary alcohols unless they are stabilized. (Conjugated alkene)
What is one way to form an anhydride?
Add an acid chloride in pyridine to a carboxylic acid.
