-In order to counter disinformation in our news cycle, we must think critically about what we are learning, consulting other sources, limiting use of social media

A

-This statement refers to the idea that social media gives people the ability to tell their side of the story and put these voices in contact with one another to create a larger movement.
-Example’s include #MeToo and the murder of George Floyd, igniting the Black Lives Matter movement

Bechdel Test

A

-The Bechdel Test asks if a film adheres to three simple criteria and is often applied to demonstrate the lack of meaningful roles given to women in film.
To pass the test, the film or show must meet the following criteria;
1. It includes at least two women
2. Who have at least one meaningful conversation
3. About something other than a man

What is the public and private sphere?

A

-The public media sphere is media owned by the government. It represents the public’s interest, uniquely represents Canadian values and content, provides content and services in both languages
-The Private Media sphere is owned by corporations. They follow a profit maximization model where decisions are made based on the likelihood of increasing revenue.
It often leads to media concentration and restricts the public’s sources of information and types of content available.

A

-Digital immigrants are people who have learned how to use digital technologies later in life and have been generally show and apprehensive in adopting novel forms of communication.
-Digital natives are those who have grown up with digital technology and did not know a time without the internet.
