Q

Ryoji Ikeda - “Micro/Macro” & “Superposition”

A

“Micro/Macro” - uses lights and sounds to slowly shift a screen from small and quiet components to large and intense ones, makes use of computers and programming

“Superposition” - playing with sounds, codes, old technologies, incripted messaging systems, quickly changing visuals, has a cosmic but electronic vibe

Post-media perspective

A

“Interface #4 / TFT tennis V180” - Virtual tennis game - Toy or artwork? Useful tool or piece of culture? Artifact of the new media art world —> NMA is truly inderdisciplinary, the collision of art and science and tech

Max Hattler: Serial Parallels

A

Looking at the unity and monotony of urban Hong Kong highrises, how they are just the same, completely, up and down - “gentle and “anxiety provoking”

Q

“Parting the Wave”

A

Scientific visualization of quantum physics - show intensity and appearance particle interactions in a quantum system, using sound, color, and shape — essentially wanting to show how nature is mediated through science

Q

“The Machine at the End of the Mechanical Age”

A

Artsists & engineers now are working in tandem - in the past machines were not just for necessity, but for play, symbols, and attractions —> artists will continue to use them for that

Q

Inauguration of Experiments in Art and Technology

A

Industrial revolution forced averageness on man (everyone is the same) - it will be up to artists to bridge the gap and make technology friendly again, and both must work in tandem to create a new world that people are excited about

A

Creates art with programming and software → code & art as one, logic and procedures behind artwork —> emergence of the unexpected from rules and instructions, unsual way to work with computers

Q

“Perpetual Ocean”

A

Ocean currents from around the world for two years—> data as art

17
Q

“Global Winds”

A

Wind currents from around the world —> patterns show directions and colors show speed from dark red to white (high to low)

18
Q

Aaron Koblin Data Visualization

A

Presentation of data is a great interface to tell stories → data becoming artistic (flight patterns, communication radio waves & data, mechanical turk (easy for people, difficult for robots), ) → crowd sourced data

19
Q

Refik Anadol data visualizations

A

Can machines dream? - Data as pigments, immersion in art, AI —> using computers and science to describe human experience, blurring the line between AI/robots & humans —> expands the power of AI and humans and thus humans and AI

20
Q

“Infinity: Never Ending Film”

A

Composed of entirely generative technology - could theoretically go on forever and create an infinite number of characters

21
Q

Bored Ape Yacht Club

A

NFTs that are supposedly one of a kind that you can own → current lawsuit over the deceptive practices in their marketing and sale → artificially inflating the price?

22
Q

Symphonie Cinetique

A

Reanimation of metalic & reflective plates in tandem and controlled by music, like a dance with their own feelings and tones - uses reflection, sound, and movement —> movement into sound and sound into movement - essentially objects given life through music

23
Q

Petalclouds in Changi Airport

A

Kinetic artwork that “dances” to movement - six suspended sky petals

24
Q

Victimless Leather Jacket

A

Biological artwork - human & mice stem cells that was fed, living, multiplying, growed and changed in a way that no one could predict —> had to be shut down —> meant to be a critique on experimentation that goes on behind labratory doors —> brings up moral and ethical questions, what is life?
