The child uses reading to learn, this happens age 4-9. Vocabulary expands through reading.
What happens in stage 3 of Chall (1996) stages of reading development?
The child reads independently, this happens from age 10 onwards. Characteristics include wide reading of different subjects and genres. Vocabulary continues to expand.
What is Dyslexia?
Acquired: problem caused by brain damage
Developmental: decoding problems despite intact brain, usually becoming obvious in childhood
