Reactor Coolant System Flashcards
What are the pressurizer level alarms?
Lo Lo: 55”
Lo: 200”
Hi: 240”
Hi HI: 275”
How much level change in the pressurizer is there for every 1 degree change?
5” pzr level
What are the relief setpoints for the ERV and PZR code safeties? When will the ERV close?
Code safeties: 2500#
ERV: Open @ 2450# and close @ 2395#
LTOP: opens @ 400#, closes @ 350#
What is the minimum pressurizer level requirement when pzr heaters are capable of being energized?
70”
Source: 1103.005 limits & precautions
What are the requirements for natural circulation?
1) Heat sink/source elevation difference
2) Hydraulic coupling
3) density change
4) steam release path
What are the 4 steam generator level instruments?
1) SU Range (0 - 250”)
2) Operate Range (102 - 394” indicated 0-100%)
3) Full range (272 - 861”)
4) EFIC Hi/Lo range (Lo 6 - 156”, Hi 102 - 500”)
What is the high pressure alarm and rupture disk setpoint for the quench tank?
Hi alarm: 90# Rupture disk: 100#
What is the purpose of maintaining water level in the quench tank and what are the level requirements?
Purpose: Provides sufficient quench cooling volume for pressurizer transients Level is maintained between 4000 and 8300 gallons Procedurally maintained 5100 - 8212 gallons (Hi Alarm)
What is the minimum required N2 pressure for the quench tank and why is this maintained?
Minimum pressure is 1 psig to prevent collapsing the tank.
What instrumentation is provided on the hot leg and what order?
Flow (gentile tube), Temperature, Pressure
What do the indications for ERV on C04 mean?
White light: indicates HS in ICS relay room is in auto
Red light: indicates solenoid is energized
Position indication: generated from acoustic monitor
What is required if a loss of seal cooling and seal injection occurs and what is the time constraint?
If unable to restore within 2 minutes, RCP operation shall be secured and seal isolated.
What would occur if A RCP seal bleedoff flow path were to be isolated?
Loss of seal staging with no flow through the seal could result in seal damage
What is the purpose of the RCP flywheels?
Increases the rotational inertia which prolongs the pump coast assuring flow to the core for as long as possible following loss of power.
Describe the RCP seal leak collection system?
Leakage past the 3rd seal collects in the drinking bird. Once drinking bird fills it dumps to the T-111 (40 gallon tank). A timer counts the time taken to fill T-111 and once filled will pump to the quench tank.
What parameters are indicative of steam bubble formation?
< 1# quench tank pressure change for 3 minute ERV blowdown and saturation conditions in the PZR.
What are the 7 locations for Vibration loose parts monitor?
2 on each SG, 2 on bottom of RV, 1 on top of RV
What are the TS requirements for pzr heaters?
TS 3.4.9 requires 2 trains of heaters with 126 KW available (modes 1-4 > 259 degrees) in the loss of offsite power concurrent with single failure of 1 EDG. To meet this Bank 1 & group 5 (red train) and Bank 2 proportional heaters and group 5 vital powered heaters (green train) are required. (If group 5 are declared inoperable, then both trains of pzr heaters are considered inoperable).
Why is CV-1009 (PZR spray isolation) required to be closed when using Aux Spray?
Due to thermal stress concerns on normal spray line due to lack of thermal sleeving on the normal spray line from RCS because spray flow would backflow to cold leg penetration.
