15
Q

Describe the RCP seal leak collection system?

A

Leakage past the 3rd seal collects in the drinking bird. Once drinking bird fills it dumps to the T-111 (40 gallon tank). A timer counts the time taken to fill T-111 and once filled will pump to the quench tank.

Q

What are the TS requirements for pzr heaters?

A

TS 3.4.9 requires 2 trains of heaters with 126 KW available (modes 1-4 > 259 degrees) in the loss of offsite power concurrent with single failure of 1 EDG. To meet this Bank 1 & group 5 (red train) and Bank 2 proportional heaters and group 5 vital powered heaters (green train) are required. (If group 5 are declared inoperable, then both trains of pzr heaters are considered inoperable).

19
Q

Why is CV-1009 (PZR spray isolation) required to be closed when using Aux Spray?

A

Due to thermal stress concerns on normal spray line due to lack of thermal sleeving on the normal spray line from RCS because spray flow would backflow to cold leg penetration.

A

TRM 3.4.3 requires delta T < 430 degrees F.

21
Q

What is the pressurizer cooldown rate limits?

A

TRM 3.4.3 requires pressurizer heatup and cooldown rate < 100 degrees/hr

22
Q

What is the max RCP seal cooler flow and what is it based on?

A

2.5 gpm - if exceeded can lead to overheating of seal due to exceeding max capacity of cooler.

23
Q

What is the purpose of the backstop lube oil system?

A

Lubricate the anti-reverse rotation device during pump S/U & S/D

24
Q

What are the purposes of bypass flow around the pzr spray valve?

A

1 gpm flow minimizes surge and spray line temperature differentials and maintain pressurizer boron concentration equalized

25
Q

What are the RCS cooldown limits per TS 3.4.3?

A

TS limits: >/= 280 F - rate is 100F/hr

280 F > T >/= 150 F - rate is 50F/hr

T < 150 F - rate is 25F/hr

Admin limit: 50 degress F/hr when temperature > 280 F

26
Q

What is the maximum pressurizer level per TS?

A

TS 3.4.9 requires pressurizer < 320”.

27
Q

What is required if one pzr safety valve becomes inoperable?

A

Per TS 3.4.10 if one safety valve becomes inoperable, then restore within 15 min or be in mode 3 in 6 hours.

28
Q

What pzr level are the pzr heaters interlocked off?

A

55”

29
Q

What are the setpoints for the pressurizer spray valve?

A

30
Q

How many total Reactor Vessel penetrations are there?

A

31
Q

What are the RCP start interlocks?

A

1) RCP seal injection > 3 gpm
2) RCP motor cooling flow > 250 gpm
3) RCP Seal cooling flow > 30 gpm
4) A/C/D upper and lower motor bearing oil levels sat
5) A/C/D HP lift oil pressure > 1750#

7) RCS to SG downcomer delta T < 50 F for first RCP
8) Tcold > 241 F for 3rd pump
9) Tcold> 465 F for 4th pump
10) Power < 22%

32
Q

What are the heat transfer regions in the steam generator? What happens to these regions as power increases?

A

Preheat - occurs in the downcomer as feedwater is preheated nucleate boiling - best heat transfer occurs

Film boiling - heat transfer decreases as film builds up on tubes

Superheat - Additional heat above saturation temperature

As power rises, nucleate boiling region gets larger, film boiling is constant and superheat region gets smaller

33
Q

Where does the PZR tap into RCS? DH suction/discharge? Makeup line? Letdown?

A

PZR and DH suction come off A Hot leg, DH discharge into the reactor vessel, makeup line taps into D RCP discharge. Letdown comes off A RCP suction line.

34
Q

Where else can the ERV isolation be operated from?

A

Locally at breaker (B-61)

35
Q

What function does the thrust runner pump provide?

A

Thrust runner pump provides oil to the thrust bearing and ARD when RCP is running

36
Q

What occurs with the RCP oil pumps when breaker is opened or pump is stopped?

A

The oil pumps will start when breaker is opened unless they are in PTL.

37
Q

What would the upper and lower RCP seal cavity read if the first stage were to fail? 2nd stage? 3rd stage?

A

1st stage - lower cavity would read RCS pressure and upper cavity would read half of that (~1100#)

2nd stage - upper and lower cavity pressure would be ~ 1000#

3rd stage - upper cavity pressure would be close to makeup tank pressure and lower cavity would be around 1000#
