Reactivity of Metals Flashcards
1
Q
How can you test the reactivity of metals?
A
Place little pieces of various metals into dilute hydrochloric acid.
The more reactive metals will bubble more and make a loud squeaky pop.
2
Q
How can you show that hydrogen is forming?
A
The burning splint test.
3
Q
Other than HCl, what else do metals react with to show their reactivity?
A
Water - very reactive metals (e.g. potassium) react vigorously with water.
Less reactive metals will only react with steam.
4
Q
Which metal on the RS will not react with either water or steam?
A
Copper
