Reactions Flashcards
What needs to happen for reaction to take place?
Chemical bonds in reactants must be broken so new bonds. Those of the products can form get bonds into a state, allowing them to break the molecule must be deformed into unstable state called the transition state.
What is the transition state?
High energy, state and activation energy must be added in order for the molecule to reach it. Transition state is unstable. Reactant molecules. Don’t stay there, long but quickly proceed to the next step of chemical reaction.
Activation energy
Closely rated to its rate of reaction, the higher the activation energy, the slower, the chemical reaction will be. Because molecules can only complete the reaction once they’ve reached the top of the activation energy barrier the higher, the barrier the fewer molecules that will have an energy to make it over at the moment.
How do enzymes affect reaction?
Lower the activating energy
