Reaction Of Acids With Metals Flashcards
What is a physical change?
A physical change is a change we can see (e.g. solid to liquid etc.) and can typically be reversible.
What is a chemical change?
A chemical change is when something changes inside a substance that we cannot necessarily see. For example, adding a gas to a gas will not always make it show change and is not normally reversible.
How can you spot a chemical reaction?
To spot a chemical reaction, you can look out for at least one of the
following:
• Bubble of gas being given off
•Change in temperature
• A colour change
• A change in mass.
What is the word equation for acid reacting with metal?
Acid + metal ——> salt + hydrogen
How can we test for hydrogen?
You can test for hydrogen gas by placing a lit splint near to the open end of a test tube containing the gas. If the gas is hydrogen, it will burn with a squeaky pop.
What happens when a metal is added to an acid?
bubbles will start to appear, The bubbles come from the gas that is being produced during the reaction. These gas bubbles are also known as effervescence.
