Images of Jesus/Gospel Writers
Name 2 similarities that the real and traditional images of Jesus have.
- They both represent Jesus, the Son of God.
- They are both portrayed as male.
Name 3 differences between the realistic and traditional images of Jesus.
- The traditional image is ‘well-kept’/clean (white) whereas the realistic looks more like a man who has darker skin and realistically wouldn’t have access to a shower etc.
- The traditional image is more European (white) looking than Jewish/Middle Eastern (darker skin tone).
- The features of the traditional Jesus are finer whereas the realistic is more thick-set.
- The traditional image includes fine robes and the realistic has everyday clothing.
What does the title Son of God mean?
The title emphasizes Jesus’ divinity as being a direct connection to God.
What does the title Lamb of God mean?
This means that, like a lamb, Jesus is completely obedient to God. This was an essential part of Jesus following what His father wanted and sacrificing himself on the cross.
What does Light of the World mean?
Light of the world means that Jesus is the energy through which we can see the truth - the best way in which to live our lives. It is connected to ‘I am the way, the truth, the light’.
What does Bread of Life mean?
This means that Jesus is food for the soul - He is our spiritual sustenance.
What does Good Shepherd mean?
This means that He will take care of you like a shepherd does for his flock of sheep. If you are lost, He will do everything to find you and bring you back to God’s family.
