Define Synogogue
The place of worship and meeting in the Jewish faith.
Define Shekinah
the dwelling or divine presence of God. Show in the torah in the form of a cloud.
Define Shabbat
the day of rest and also 7th day of the week.
Define Kosher
literally means ‘clean’ or ‘fit’ . It usually refers to food that jews are permitted to eat.
Define Torah
The Jewish written law. The first 5 books of the Hebrew bible.
Define Mitzvot
actions Jews must preform or avoid. There are 613 Mitzvot found in the torah.
Define Messiah
the anointed or chosen one. Jews believe he will be a decendednt of King David.
Define Covenant
a promise or agreement. Abraham and Moses made agreements with God in the Torah.
God as a Creator
- God created the world ‘ex nihlo’ (from nothing).
- This belif comes from Genesis in the Torah.
God as a Lawgiver
- God gave the Torah to Moses on mount sianai.
- The Torah is the most holy book in the Jewish Scripture.
God as a Judge
- Jews believe that God constantly judges the actions of everyone.
2.If Jews follow the Mitzvot they will be judged positivley. - This belif comes from the Torah.
God as One
- Jewish people are Monothiest.
- This means they believe in One God
- The Shema is the prayer that outlines this belif.
