- The shock waves push waves up + rushes across the ocean
- As the shore, the wave’s height increases as the speed decreases

- 70% of the coastal population were missing or killed

- Farmland was destroyed
- Arable farmland was contaminated by sakt water that killed crops

- Resorts were hit with 1700 killed
- Led to collapse of tourist industry through free and loss of hotels
