Ratios Flashcards
1
Q
Part-part or part-whole relationships
A
Notice if there are only two parts in the whole, I can derive a part-whole ratio from a part-part ratio and vice versa. For example:
If the ratio of men to women in the office is 3:4, then the “total” is 7, so there are 4 women for every 7 employees.
Ratios also tell indicate what the multiple of a unit will be.
2
Q
Concrete values
A
Values are actual amounts (# of tickets sold, litres of water, etc.)
3
Q
Relative values
A
Values relate two quantities using fractions, decimals, percents, or ratios (twice as many, 60% less, ratio of 2:3, etc.)
When a question asks for a relative value, not a concrete one, I don’t need as much information in order to solve.
