Rates Of Reaction Flashcards
Catalysts?
Substances that speed up chemical reactions. Catalysts usually don’t need to be replaced because they are not used up. It requires less activation energy needed to start the reaction
Enzymes?
Large complex protein molecules that act as catalysts in biological reactions
Things that affect rate of reaction?
Energy with which particles collide Frequency of collision Concentration Temperature pressure Surface area Catalyst
Activation energy?
Minimum amount of energy needed for the particles to react. Different for each reaction
Rate if reaction equation
Rate of reaction = y/x
Limiting reactant?
Substance that runs out first. When the limiting reactant runs out then the reaction will stop
Exothermic reaction?
Release energy
Reactants have more energy than products
Neutralisation burning
Endothermic reaction?
Absorb energy
Products have more energy than reactants
Electrolysis
Respiration?
Burning of glucose- exothermic
Collision theory?
Substances react when their particles collide together.
At high temperature those particles have more energy and more faster, creating more successful collisions.
Higher surface area means more particles available to collide and react, faster reaction
Higher concentration/pressure means more particles in a fixed volume, this means there is a higher chance of successful collisions.
