Rates Of Reaction Flashcards

1
Q

When can chemical reactions only occur?

A

When reacting partials collide with each other and with sufficient energy. The minimum amount of energy particles must have to react is called the activation energy

Q

How do you increase the rate of reaction?

A

Increasing the temperature increases the speed of the particles so that they collide more frequently and more energetically
Increasing the pressure of reacting gases increases the frequency of collisions
In pressing the concentration of the reactants in solutions increases the frequency of collisions
Increasing the surface area of solid reactants increases the frequency of collisions

Q

What do catalysts do?

A

They change the rate of chemical actions but are nor used up during the reaction. Different reactions need different catalysts

Q

How can the rate of a chemical reaction be found?

A

Rate of reaction = amount of reactant used / time

Rate of reaction = amount of product formed / time
