Rates Flashcards

1
Q

What is t he equation to solve for the rate for machines working together?

A

Add the individual machine rates to get the combined new rate

This works because both are working together and so it should go a bit faster in the same amount of time.

Q

How do you solve for the average rate for the same distance? (fix card when you learn about rates)

A

Avg speed = (Total D/Total Time). It is always closer to the slower rate.

Q

How should you approach every rate problem?

A
  1. Make the appropriate chart
  2. fill in what i know: the numbers and relationships between numbers
  3. solve for the unknown
  4. know how to guess (which answer choices are completely ridiculous?)
