Q

How does increasing the temperature affect the rate of reaction

A

When the temp is increased the particles move faster
As they move faster there will be more frequent collisions
And as they move faster they will have more energy so more particles will have enough energy for the reaction

Q

How does the concentration or pressure effect rate of reaction

A

If a solution is more concentrated it means there are more if particles breaking about in the same volume of solvents
And also the pressure of gas increased it means the same number if particles occupied in a smaller space
This means collisions between particles will occur more frequency

Q

How does the surface affect the rate of reaction

A

If there is a bigger surface area to volume ratio it means there will be more area to work at so there will be more frequent collisions

Q

How does catalysts effect the rate of reaction

A

It creates an alternative activations energy pathway

So it decreases the activation energy

Q

Magnesium and hydrochloric acid practical

A

Start by adding a set of volume of dilute hydrochloric acid into a conical flask
Add magnesium ribbon to the acid and quickly attarch an empty gas syringe
Start a stopwatch and take the readings of the volume of gas in syringe and the time
Plot results

Q

Sodium thiosulfate and hydrochloric acid practical

A

They are both clear and when reacted they create a yellow precipitate and sulfur
1. Add set volume of dilute sodium thiosulfate to a conical flask
2.place the flask in a piece of paper with a blank cross drawn on it
3.add some dilute hci to the flask and start a stopwatch
Time how long it takes for the cross to disappear
