RatBB_Chp29_Immunology Flashcards
model of respiratory track allergies
Brown Norway
autoimmune disease models
Brown Norway and Lewis
CD45
B Cell
CD4
Helper T cell, TH1 or TH2 based on cytokine production
CD8
Cytotoxic T cell
• Natural killer cells
large granular lymphoctyes with MHC mediated cytotoxicity but can also help with antibody dependent cell mediated cytotoxicity (somewhere between adaptive and innate immunity)
MHC (major histocompatibility complex)
- Chromosome 20 (like mice)
* Self/ non self-discrimination by immune system
Cytokines:
pleiotropic molecules that mediate biological effects through transmission of stimulatory and inhibitory signals
Th1 Cytokines
IL2 and INFy
Th2 Cytokines
IL4, IL10, IL13
• BBDP (diabetes prone biobreeding rat):
discovered in outbred Wistar colony, develop spontaneous diabetes and thyroiditis between 60-120 days of age
• LEC (Long Evans Cinnamon):
don’t develop CD4 T cells
• BN (Brown Norway):
CD4 T cells often TH2 immune response, high IgE responders
• LEW (Lewis):
TH1 mediated autoimmune disease
