Rañjaka Pitta Flashcards
What is the governing element of rañjaka pitta?
Water
What are the primary sites of rañjaka pitta?
Liver, Spleen, Intrinsic Factor in Stomach
What are the primary functions of rañjaka pitta?
Produces bile, liver enzymes
Gives color to the blood
What does the Sanskrit word Rañjaka mean?
To give color
Yakrut is the sankrit word for liver
What is the function of Rañjaka Pitta in the skin, hair, eyes blood, urine, feces and sweat?
Gives color to the skin, hair, eyes, blood etc.
What is the function of Rañjaka Pitta in the marrow?
Responsible for erythrogenisis, the creation of the red blood cells in the marrow.
What is the funciton of Rañjaka Pitta in the liver?
In the liver rañjaka pitta is responsible for disintegration of hemoglobin into heme and globin. From heme comes bile which is rañjaka pitta, and is responsible for giving color to the urine, feces, and sweat.
Where is intrinsic factor located, and what is it responsible for?
Intrinsic factor is one of the components of the stomach’s digestive juice.
Intrinsic factor enables vitamin B12 to enter the blood and general circulation, and go into the marrow. There the rañjaka pitta from the stomach (intrinsic factor & B12) stimulates erythrogenesis.
The functional aspect of the production of red blood cells is pitta, governed by rakta agni and rañjaka pitta
In the stomach is intrinsic factor, which is responsible for the production of blood in the bone marrow.
What is the role of Rañjaka Pitta in the spleen?
In the spleen, Rañjaka Pitta’s job is more protective. It kills bacteria and parasites and produces some white blood cells (rasa dhātu)
What is special about the relationship between the liver, stomach, spleen, and marrow?
There is functional integrity between the liver, stomach, spleen, and marrow. If one is affected it will affect the others.
What is the sanskrit word for liver?
Yakrut is the sankrit word for liver
What is the job of the spleen?
The spleen filters the blood and sends away unwanted, heavy, old red blood cells to the liver.
What is the job of the liver?
The liver destroys the old red blood cells and seperates the hemoglobin from the blood. Which it then utilizes for the production of bile salts, pigment, and enzymes.
Where is rañjaka pitta secreted from in the stomach?
What else does this area of the stomach secrete?
The lesser curvature
This part of the stomach is the acid bearing area, which secretes hydrochloric acid and intrinsic factor
Why would someone who has a portion of their stomach removed experience anemia?
That person may not secrete sufficient intrinsic factor, which then affects the production of red blood cells, resulting in anemia.
Which type of Agni is associated with the liver?
Which corresponds to what on the physical level?
Bhūta agni
Liver enzymes
What are disorders if rañjaka pitta?
Hepatitis
Anemia
Chronic fatigue syndrome
Mononeucleosis
What happens if kapha disturbs rañjaka pitta?
If kapha is long-standing and lingers in the liver, what might be the result?
Person may develop gallstones
Person may develop high cholesterol, fatty degeneration of the liver, or steatorrhea (fatty diarrhea)
What other subtype of pitta has a relationship with rañjaka pitta? What organ is associated with this subtype?
What is relationship that connects these two subtypes?
Ālochaka pitta, the eyes
The eyes and liver are connected. If the sclera is yellow, it is due to a disorder of rañjaka and ālochaka pitta. Toxicity in the liver may create visual disturbances
Yakrut is the seat of what element?
What emotions are associated with this element?
What do you have to do to allow the agni of the liver to release a feeling or emotion?
Fire
Anger, hate, jealousy, and envy
Pay total attention to feeling or emotion
