Randomised Controlled Study: Flashcards
Descriptive or analytic?
Analytical
Observational or interventional?
Interventional
What it is used to measure:
Participants are randomly allocated to groups. Always have a comparison (control) group. Testing effect of treatments/interventions
Strengths:
Best way to evaluate on an intervention
Strongest design for demonstrating a casual association
Best way of testing interventions
Limitations:
Loss to follow up
Blinding is difficult to achieve and may be obvious or cause safety concerns
Non-adherence can cause bias
Ethical issues
Need clinical equipoise
Resource intensive
Exposure needs to be modifiable
Higher selectivity not relating to real world.
Measure of Occurrence:
Incidence risk
Incidence proportion
Measure of association:
Relative Risk
Risk Difference
