Prospective Cohort Study: Flashcards
Descriptive or analytic?
Analytical
Observational or interventional?
Observational
What it is used to measure:
Individuals are defined on the basis of the presence of absence of an exposure and they are followed up to see if they develop the disease.
Strengths:
Good for studying rare exposures
Determine temporal sequence between an exposure and an outcome
Can examine multiple outcomes
Limitations:
Loss to follow up
Potential for misclassification
Not good for rare outcomes
Time consuming
Potentially quite expensive
Healthy worker effect may cause bias
Potential for participants to have a change in exposure status
Measure of Occurrence:
Incidence proportion
Incidence rate
Measure of Association:
Relative risk
Risk difference
