T/F
The thermal imaging camera is a good substitute for properly opening-up voids during overhaul.
False
Communications with the Inside Team of the ladder company(s) is vital prior to any life saving rope rescue attempt. It is also critical that notification be given directly to the___________or__________ prior to commencing a life saving rope rescue attempt.
Incident Commander or Sector Supervisor
Upon determining that a life saving rope rescue is the only available option, the Incident Commander may dispatch additional resources to the __________as well as a_________apartments and/or apartments on the _________to provide the greatest chance of a successful rescue.

Action upon receipt of a Task Force Response Notification: The following is an example and can be modified dependent on the scope, type and severity of the situation.
4.4.1 Upon receipt of Response Notification, the Operations Section verifies with the Task Force Leader, the location and details of the response. Who assigns a designation to the Task Force, e.g. Task Force 1, etc. ???
Resource Unit Leader
In all cases involving derailment of railroad tank cars a _______________must be called, even when it appears there is no damage.
Hazardous Materials Unit
Haz-Mat will provide the technical knowledge and skills to assist the Incident Commander in determining the condition and contents of the involved tank car(s). This will aid in controlling the incident safely.
If an Operations Section is established, sector/group supervisors will generally report directly to the__________, who would then report to the _____________.
Operations Section Chief
Incident Commander
If Branches are established, sector/group supervisors will report to ___________the they are assigned to, who will then report to the _______________.
Branch Director
Operations Section Chief
When transmitting 2nd or greater alarms for fires which have entered the cockloft of large “H” type buildings, the IC should consider special calling additional __________to cover critical sectors and/or exposures.
Battalion Chiefs
These additional battalion chiefs could be assigned as top floor sector supervisor, roof sector supervisor, or as needed.
Who should determine when to place the cockloft nozzle into operation, and when to shut it down?
Only the IC or Sector Chief
The IC and / or Sector Supervisors must use judgment based on existing conditions to determine when it is safe to operate without a protection line, bearing in mind that conditions may change
The operation of the cockloft nozzle should be supervised by a __________~~~~_
Chief Officer
The ECC must provide for sufficient pressure available at the standpipe outlet, but should also strive to minimize the amount of excess pressure supplied to the system. When the standpipe system is charged with excessive pressure, it can become more difficult for the control firefighter to set the proper pressure in the handline at the standpipe outlet.
3.9.9 With this in mind, the ECC should generally supply the standpipe system with a pressure of _______ psi, plus an additional ______psi per floor of elevation. This is measured to the floor on which the hoseline will be operating.
105 psi
5 psi
If fire is on the 26th floor of a HRFPMD, the ECC should supply ________to the standpipe system (
230 psi
105 psi-baseline + 125 psi for 25 floors of elevation) Note: If not utilizing supply charts, ECC’s may, for ease of computation, use formula 100 plus an additional 5 psi per floor of elevation when performing street hydraulics.
What is a Marketing Floor?
Skipped floors
A Large Caliber Stream (LCS) is a fire stream that delivers 350 gpm of water flow or more. They can be ground based (New Yorker multiversal, Blitzfire Oscillating Monitor), engine apparatus based (deckpipe), or applied through an elevated position (tower ladder or aerial ladder pipe).
LCS should be supplied with the largest available hoselines. Most commonly, this will be 3 ½” hose.
The Blitzfire Oscillating Monitor should only be supplied with a what size hoseline?
2 1/2
At a recent job, a failure of the apparatus pumps occurred causing a loss of water. When the ECC realized the failure he
immediately gave the 10-70 via HT and apparatus radio. Did he operate correctly?
NO
Since the problem is with the apparatus and not the water source, a signal 10-70 should not be transmitted. When a 10-70 is transmitted, resources are focused on securing a water source for the 1st due apparatus. In this case, the apparatus itself is not operational, so an URGENT transmission for WATER LOSS is more effective.
A slow 11th Div engine company has just short stretched at a fire using the entire 1st due bed of 1 3/4. To remedy the situation since someone was hanging out the window, they simply brought and extra length of 1 3/4 to the nozzle and attached it directly to the shutoff. Did they operate correctly?
Yes
If six lengths of 1 ¾” hose have already been stretched, it is permissible to add one extra length of 1 ¾” hose to the stretch in the emergency situation of a short stretch
When members require medical treatment as a result of respiratory injuries incurred while operating with donned facepieces of self-contained breathing apparatus, the following procedure shall be complied with by the Incident Commander
A Medical Officer shall be immediately summoned to the scene or treatment location and a complete examination made of such members. A report with full particulars shall be forwarded by the Medical Officer to the Bureau of Operations with a copy forwarded to the Safety Command. B. Masks and cylinders shall be impounded and forwarded without delay together with related mask record cards to the Safety Command for analysis by the Mask Service Unit. A report on the results of such analysis shall be forwarded to the Bureau of Operations with a copy to the Bureau of Health Services. C. Direct the Battalion Chief in immediate command of members at the time of injury to conduct an investigation and forward a report to the Bureau of Operations with a copy to the Bureau of Health Services and to the Safety Command.
A NOTEWORTHY INCIDENT is defined as a fire, emergency or administrative operation that is likely to generate significant media or political interest, and thus necessitate an immediate, accurate and up-to-date information flow to the Department hierarchy. Examples of these types of incidents are as follows:
• Fires/emergencies in high-profile occupancies/locations.
• Transportation incidents (aviation, railroad, subway, etc.) involving multiple casualties or severe service disruption.
• Large scale evacuation of buildings, special events, etc.
• Any fire/emergency involving possible child abuse. • Vacates involving public buildings or shelters.
Indicate the number for each 10-45 and its respective Code.
• Two (2) or more 10-45 Code 1,
Three (3) or more 10-45 Code 2 or
Eight (8) or more 10-45 Code 3 or 4.
These examples, while not of themselves major events, are by their controversial and/or sensitive nature to be considered NOTEWORTHY and require a notification to the Borough Commander/on-duty Command Chief
Anytime power is removed by use of a power removal box, the IC shall forward a letterhead report with full particulars through the chain of command to the ______________
Chief of Operations
The Chief Officer can call the blue light telephone with his/her cellular telephone from the street, but the ___________is the preferred method. The blue light telephone does not ring, there is a buzzer mounted on the wall above the telephone that will intermittently activate.

- Request Third Rail - DC Power Removal (Specify Affected Track(s))
- Request Catenary - AC Power Removal (Specify Affected Track(s))
- Request 480 Volt Standby Power Removal (Specify Affected Track(s))

Only one vehicle repeater in each borough is allowed at one time
FALSE
Only one operation utilizing a vehicle repeater shall be allowed citywide. The activation of a second repeater could deactivate the first repeater. If a second operation requires activation of the vehicle repeater, the dispatcher will inform the Incident Commander of the second operation that there is already a vehicle repeater in use. The second operation shall use “Post radio to Post radio” to effect communications. This second operation would have to operate on a different command channel so as not to interfere with the initial repeater operation
All Battalion vehicles shall have the vehicle repeater set initially to what channel.

FDNY personnel should be alert to the signs of ARCS failure. Indications may include unusual periods of radio silence or continued inability to make radio contact on the ARCS Channel(s). If an ARCS system is not operational, the Incident Commander (IC) should attempt to contact members through utilization of the H/T on which
Channel 1 (Primary Tactical)
The IC should conduct a Roll Call of units on the scene in a timely manner to ensure all members have switched from the ARCS channel back to Channel 1.
