what is the treatment for PTSD?
A
- CBT
- repeated graded exposure
- Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR)
- antidepressants: (paroxetine or mirtazepine)

A
- adaptation to a significant or stressful life change (usually within 1-3 months)
- interferes with social functioning and performance
- depression, anxiety and inability to cope

how long does a typical grief reaction last?

- up to 12 months , but cultural differences exist (mean of 6 months)
- sadness/ tearfulness
- anger, guilt
- seeing or hearing the voice of the deceased
- disturbed sleep

A
- intense, prolonged delayed reaction
- preoccupation with feelings of worthlessness
- thoughts of death
- excessive guilt
- hallucinatory experiences (other than the image or voice of the deceased)

what are the risk factors for an abnormal grief reaction?
A
- history of depression
- intense grief or depressive symptoms early in the grief reaction
- few social supports
- little experience of death
- “traumatic” or unexpected death

how do you manage a severe abnormal grief reaction?
A
- BDZs may be used to reduce severe autonomic arousal/ treat insomnia
- consider antidepressants and counselling

- paranoid
- schizoid
- schizotypal

what is a schizoid personality type?
A
- emotionally cold, detachment, lack of interest in others
- excessive introspection and fantasy

what separates this from schizoid?
A
- avoid social interactions because of a deep seated fear of people
- have no desire to form relationships with people because they see no point in it
