Many gallstones are *asymptomatic* 
Complications can be divided into those
1) within the gallbladder e.g.: 
-biliary colic
-cholecystitis
-mucocele
-empyema
2) within the biliary tree e.g.: 
-obstructive jaundice 
-ascending cholangitis
-pancreatitis
3) Outside the gallbladder e.g.: 
-gallstone ileus

rare but interesting complications include carcinoma of the gallbladder or gallstone ileus
