Random Flashcards
Misperception of something that is there
Illusion
Fixed, false belief
Delusion
Enhanced state of sensory sensitivity accompanied by an exaggerated intensity of behaviors whose purpose is to detect threats
Hypervigilance
Having an unreasonable or irrational fear related to exposure to specific objects or situations
Specific phobia
Diagnosed when symptoms of schizophrenia are present for a significant portion of the time within a one-month period, but signs of disruption are not present for the full six months required for the diagnosis of schizophrenia. The symptoms of both disorders can include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, disorganized or catatonic behavior, and social withdrawal. While impairment in social, occupational, or academic functioning is required for the diagnosis of schizophrenia, in schizophreniform disorder an individual’s level of functioning may or may not be affected.
Schizophreniform disorder
Uncommon psychiatric condition in which patients present with non-bizarre delusions, but with no accompanying prominent hallucinations, thought disorder, mood disorder, or significant flattening of affect. For the diagnosis to be made, auditory and visual hallucinations cannot be prominent, though olfactory or tactile hallucinations related to the content of the delusion may be present.
Delusional disorder
A condition in which a person experiences a combination of schizophrenia symptoms — such as hallucinations or delusions — and of mood disorder symptoms, such as mania or depression
Schizoaffective disorder
Period of psychosis whose duration is generally shorter, non re-occurring, and not caused by another condition. The disorder is characterized by a sudden onset of psychotic symptoms, which may include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech or behavior, or catatonic behavior.
Brief psychotic disorder
Acute muscle contraction, like contraction of neck muscle.
Acute dystonia
This is irreversible. Difficult-to-treat form of dyskinesia, a disorder resulting in involuntary, repetitive body movements.
Tardive dyskinesia
Lipoteichoic acid
A bacterial surface protein on strep pneum that allows it to enter the CNS.
Pleiocytosis
Elevated total cell counts in CSF, commonly seen in CNS infections
Latex agglutination antigen assay on CSF can be used to diagnose what?
