RAM Flashcards
SD RAM
Synchronous dynamic random access memory, the original RAM
• has two notches
• runs at same speed as mother board
DDR RAM
Double data rate RAM, for one clock you get two bits
DDR speed
Twice the clock speed
PC speed rating
Same as DDR but in bits, DDR x8
DDR 2
Twice as fast as DDR
240 pin
Core RAM Clock Speed
Same speed as mother board
DDR 2 Speed
4x faster than core speed
DDR 3
Speed doubled from DDR2, 240 pins still
DDR4
288 pin stick
Bandwidth -MT/S
Are all mobos and RAM compatible?
No, different mobos support different RAM tech
Double sided RAM
RAM on both sides, some mobos can’t use
Channels
A slot for RAM different mobos have different amount of slots
Duel channel memory
Have to put at least two matching RAM sticks in the channels
Triple Channel
Have to have at least three RAM sticks
Best practice when selecting RAM sticks
Best practice is to put RAM that all have the same speed but the capacity can vary
