RAID Flashcards
What is a RAID 0?
Striping, half the data on 2 drives
What is the benefit of a RAID 0?
Increased speed
How much storage do you loose with a RAID 0?
None
What is a RAID 1?
Mirroring, all the data on 2 disks
What is the benefit of a RAID 1?
Full redundancy
How much storage do you loose with a RAID 1
Half
What is a RAID 5
Striping with Parity, one bit of data on one drive one bit of data on a second drive, and the result of those 2 on another
What is the benefit of a RAID 5
Between a RAID 1 and RAID 0
how much data do you loose on a RAID 5
a third (if you’re using 3 drives)
What is a RAID 6?
Striping with Dual Parity, there are 2 different parity bits with 2 different calculations
What is a RAID 10?
Striping + Mirroring
What are the benefits to a RAID 10?
Full redundancy and quicker speeds
What are the benefits to a RAID 6?
quicker speeds and more redundancy
How much storage do you loose with a RAID 6
half (if you use 4 drives)
How much storage do you loose with a RAID 10 ?
half
