Displays Flashcards
What is a capacitive touch screen ?
Measures electromagnetic distortion and translates that in to x and y coordinates
Which touch screen technology allows you to make more than input?
Multi-touch screen
How many Inputs can you have in a capacitive touch screen?
1, if you touch 2 places it will take the average.
What is a LCD display
Liquid crystal display, uses liquid crystal where the properties can change with voltage
What is TN?
Twisted Nematic, crystals twist and untwist as response from voltage.
Would TN be considered fast or slow?
Fast
Is the viewing angle narrow or wide for TN
Narrow
Is the colour reproduction poor or good for TN?
Poor
Is the contrast poor or good for TN?
Poor
What is IPS?
In-plane switching, Crystals rotate as a response to voltage
Would IPS be considered fast or slow?
Slow
Is the viewing angle narrow or wide for IPS
Wide (178 degrees)
Is the colour reproduction poor or good for IPS?
Good (excellent)
Is the contrast poor or good for IPS?
Moderate
What is VA?
Vertical alignment, crystals tilt as a response
Would VA be considered fast or slow?
Moderate
Is the viewing angle narrow or wide for VA
Moderate
Is the colour reproduction poor or good for IPS?
Good
Is the contrast poor or good for IPS?
Good
Why is a backlight necessary?
Because the crystal make very little light
What is a CCFL
Cold cathode fluorescent lamp, common type of back light.
What is a LED
Light Emitting diode, better performance for than CCFL and are thinner
What is an OLED?
Organic LED, each pixel gets its own led backlight, even more energy efficient and even thinner.
What’s the disadvantage when it comes to OLED backlight?
The maximum brightness is less and are susceptible to burn in.
