Q

What are the four types of radio traffic on a structure fire?

A

Emergency Traffic (driven by IC)
Priority Traffic
Status Change
Roof Report

30
Q

What is the definition of a status change?

A

A type of radio communication in which a unit prompts the IC when they have completed their assignment, or they are unable to complete their assignment. The sender must use the Order Model to structure a standard report.

31
Q

What is the definition of a roof report?

A

Companies can be assigned to the roof for ventilation or simply a roof report. All situations, however, warrant a roof report. These reports can provide very valuable tactical information to the IC and the rest of the crews about what is going on above interior operating units.

32
Q

What should be assessed and communicated in a roof report?

A
  • Type of roof if not easily identified from the ground (peaked, flat, bowstrung, etc.)
  • Stability of the roof
  • Fire or smoke conditions and their location on the roof
  • Location of any firewalls
  • Unusual heavy roof loads (if present)
  • Conditions in the attic (if known)
  • Basic blueprint of the building if unusual
33
Q

What type of roof information would warrant “priority traffic”?

A
  • Unstable roof
  • Eminent collapse potential
  • A hazardous roof structure
  • Working fire in the attic space
34
Q

What is the definition of priority traffic?

A

A radio message to the IC that contains official information that most likely will require a significant adjustment to the IAP or incident’s overall strategy. These reports can be triggered by things like fire in the attic or suspected structural integrity issues. The sender must use the Order Model to structure a standard report.

35
Q

Who is the only person who can initiate emergency traffic on an incident?

A

Incident Command

36
Q

What are instances that warrant emergency traffic?

A

Mayday Scenarios
Strategic Shifts

37
Q

How should an emergency traffic report be structured?

A
  • The IC will sound the emergency traffic tones
  • The IC will deliver the emergency traffic radio report
  • Once the report has been given, the IC will contact Dispatch and repeat the emergency traffic report verbatim on Blue.
38
Q

Units not involved with the emergency traffic should maintain what?
