Indications for head CT
A
- New headache in pt w/out hx
- Sudden, severe 10/10 (“worst of my life” or “thunderclap”)
- Focal neurologic deficit/stroke/TIA
- Head trauma
- Papilledema on physical exam
- New dx dementia

Head CT is commonly used for what?
A
- Chronic headache/migraine
- Mental status changes, “sundowning”
- Chronic psychiatric disease/psychosis/suicidal ideations
- Chronic seizures
- Fall/low force trauma w/out direct injury to head
- Done to rule out bleed, NOT to confirm stroke

Tx for middle cerebral artery occlusion
A
tPA (tissue plasminogen activator)
- “clot buster”

- Some have congenital anomaly that predisposes
- Mass
- Trauma
