Assess renal structure and function, calculi and obstruction
US
First line of investigation
MCU
paeds; bladder filled with contrast; scan while peeing; look for reflux into kidneys; posterior urethral valve in boys; reflux commonest cause of uTIin kids
nucelar med
evaluate renal function; excretion, infection, scarring, infarctionm renak arerty stenosis
hydronephrosis - renal pelvis (right) > 1cm
stage 3-5: antibiotics + surgical intervention
abscesses kidney - hypoechic roinded lesions
acute pyelonephritis - patchy echogenicity of renal cortex; upper pole very bulky
hyperdensity at upper pole and around kidney
- diffuse perinephric fatstranding = infx
vesico reflux
posterior uretheric valve
emphysematous pyelonephritis
multiple diverticula
neurogenic bladder
tall trabculated bladder with diveritcula 9christmas tree bladder
– neurogenic bladder
two types hyper hypotonic bladder
hypotnoc distended, wall becomes thin = pt unable to empty causes outpouching and reflux
later stage is diverticuli
hypertonic = small bladder; bladder does niot hv capacity to hold on for too long
medullary nephricalcinosis
- medullary sponge
- other ddx
