subluxation is a minor or incomplete dislocation, where the joint surfaces remain touching
dislocation is where the adjoining bones are no longer touching

CT has excellent depiction of fractures and dislocations - bone detail
MRI is useful for soft tissue/ ligamentous injuries, spinal cord injury, etc

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF ULTRASOUNDS

ADVANTAGES: available, quick and inexpensive
dynamic information and no radiation
DISADVANTAGES: operator dependent - prone to artefacts
unable to penetrate bone or deep inside joints
