What would plain radiography b used for?
bone/dentistry esp injury. OTP = Orthopantomograph = dentitian
PLain radiograph contrast medium
barium (if unlikely to directly enter bloodstream)
or iodine based medium
FOSIT investigations
flexiable nasoendoscope/barium swallow
Post lyngectomy check iwith
iodine contrsat!! Not barium incase it ends up in the blood flow
Sialograms show what?
salivary ducts using contrast medium
What does Videofluroscopy show?
function, esp of swallow, often used with speach and language therapists etc to help
What can US be used for in head and neck? WHat is Ultrasound good at telling us about?
soft tissue, and especially good for biopsies.
Parathyroid investigatuoins
Calcium levels, serum parathormone, us to identify if mass and where, then sestamibi scan (nucler T99 injected. scan at 1 and 4 hours, should be out of thyroid at 4h, if not then is abnormality)
What does SPECT CT show?
thyroid results of Sestamibi ontop of the ct scan
What is IRMER?
regulations t control radiation doses
CT COntrast used
same as for xray. Iodine,
Outer/Middle ear/inner ear assessed by?
1,2,3… I (otoscope), CT, MRI…. Outer, middle, inner
Proptosis can lead to blindness how?
stretching the optic nerve
What contrast used in MRI?
one that’ll show up with magneticness, gadoliniium
