Anatomy and Physiology of the Neck Flashcards
Dysphagia
Difficulty swallowing
Odynophagia
Painful swallowing
Reffered otalgia
Painful throat -> ear
3 parts of the larynx
Supraglottis, glottis, Subglottis
dysarthia
Difficulty producing speach (arthr = vocal articulation)
4muscles of mastication and innervation
Temporalis
Masseter
Medial and lateral pterygoid
Innervated by lateral branch of V3
general sesation of ant. 2/3 tongue
Special sensory
General sensation is by the Trigeminal V3 (mandibular branch
SPecial sensation is via the Facial (CHorda Tympani) (VII)
posterior 1/3 sensation
Special and general are via CN IX (Glossopharyngeal)
Motor supply of the tongue
All by the hypoglossal (CN XII) except for the Palatoglossal which is by Vagus (Palatoglossal is like Plannet pluto, which is outer space like Venus (Vagus)).
4 intrinsic muscles of tongue
superior longitudinal
inferior longitudinal
transverse
vertical
4 extrinsic muscles of the tongue
Genioglossus
Hyoglossus
Styloglossus
Palatoglossus (CN X)
Boundaries of the mouth
FLoor = mylohyoid muscle
Ant = gums of teeth (mandibular gingiva)
Roof = Oral mucosal space
Posterior = Anterior Tonsillar pillars
Larynx levels and hyoid
C3-C6
hyoid = C3
Muscles of the larynx supply nerve
Vagus (recurrent laryngeal branch)
Except for Cricothyroid muscle (Superior Laryngeal Nerve)
Larynx sesnations are from
Vagus (CN X)
