Cue
The introduction to:
- A clip of actuality, sound bite or other audio such as a piece of music
- A correspondent’s report
Outro
The presenter’s sign-off
Actuality
Audio material recorded on location
Atmos
Background noise recorded on location - short for atmosphere
Fades
When sound effects or music gradually fades away
Intro
The presenter’s introduction which generally involves a greeting, a time check and so on.
Stinger/sting/jingle
A short burst of music or sound played at regular intervals during a programme
Stings
Often used at the beginning or the end of a report, or to highlight the headlines
Audio clips
A 15 to 20 second piece of pre-recorded audio taken from an interview with someone related to the story
