Why was the monarchy RE-established after Cromwells reign
Military unrest leads to popular demand for monarchy to be restored.
The people felt there was divisions in leadership.
Charles II agreed to be more religiously lenient.

William of ORANGE is invited over by Protestant Nobels to invade England and claim the throne for himself!
King James II fled to France and William gained the throne non-violently.
Why is William of Orange important?
He ruled as a CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCH, not an ABSOLUTE monarch as the previous monarchs had done, he ruled but had to collaborate with government. Gist of the kind = step towards more “democratic” thinking or at least more lenient thinking.
