1868 1,000 Freemen were killed in Louisiana, 1873 150 Freedmen killed in the Colfax massacre. 1874 federal troops intervened to stop lynchings in Louisiana.
Why was the 1874 Civil rights act a failure
Last initiative by the RR and they were reluctant to use federal troops in south as the redeemers had restored democratic control.
