Radiation Flashcards
What causes background radiation?
Most background radiation comes from natural sources, while most artificial radiation comes from medical examinations, such as X-ray photographs.
What is radiation?
The release of energy as electromagnetic waves or as moving particles, especially high-energy particles.
What are cosmic rays?
Radiation that reaches the Earth from outer-space.
What can we do to avoid background radiation?
There is little we can do about natural background radiation. After all, we cannot stop eating, drinking or breathing to avoid it.
What is Nuclear Radiation?
radiation in the form of particles emitted by an atomic nucleus, as either alpha rays or gamma rays. it is produced by decay of radioactive substances or by nuclear fission.
What is Irradiation?
Irradiation is when an object or animal is exposed to Radiation.
What material is best known for stopping radiation waves?
Lead is the most affective one known.
What rays are the most dangerous?
Gamma Rays
What types of rays are there?
Gamma rays, X-rays, ultraviolet light, alpha, beta and neutron.
