Radar weather reports (RAREP’s/SD’s)

What does a typical RAREP include?

A
  1. Location identifier and time of radar observation.
  2. Echo pattern (LN/AREA/CELL).
  3. Area coverage in tenth’s.
  4. Type and intensity of weather.
  5. Azimuth reference and range.
  6. Dimension of echo pattern.
  7. Cell movement.
  8. Maximum Top and location.
  9. AUTO (if reported automatically from WSR-88D radar data.

A

Automated from Oklahoma City. At 1935 UTC. Line of echoes 8/10th’s of the area.
Thunderstorms & very heavy rain showers. From 86degrees at 40NM & 199degrees at 115NM.
20 miles wide.
Cells within the line are moving from 240degrees at 25 Knots. Maximum top (determined by both Radar & Satellite) at 57000 ft 159degrees & 65NM out. The last line indicates the intensity of precipitation. EG: grid QM intensity is 3.
