R44-II POH Section 4 (Normal Procedures) Flashcards
What is the max rate of climb (Vy)?
55 KIAS
POH 4-1
What is the recommended takeoff and climb speed?
60 KIAS
POH 4-1
What is the max range speed?
100 KIAS
POH 4-1
What is the max cruise speed?
110 KIAS
Do not exceed except in smooth air, and then only with caution
POH 4-1
What is landing approach speed?
60 KIAS
POH 4-1
What is autorotation speed?
60-70 KIAS
POH 4-1
What is the recommended priming time?
3-5 seconds
POH 4-7
What is the procedure for failed start attempts?
If engine fails to start after three attempts, allow starter to cool ten minutes before next attempt. With a hot engine, it may be helpful to cool fuel in lines by running fuel pump for 30 seconds with mixture OFF prior to beginning start procedure (hold key in prime position)
POH 4-7
What are the mag drop check parameters?
75% RPM
7% max drop in 2 seconds
POH 4-7
What are the sprag clutch check parameters?
75% RPM
Full split of tach needles
Idle above 50%
POH 4-7
A poor idle indicates the potential for full engine failure during autorotations.
What is the hydraulic system check procedure?
75% RPM
Hyds on, small (< 1”) movements in Circle, X pattern; Hyds off, same pattern, verify blade movement; Hyds on, same pattern, verify blade movement and no resistance
POH 4-7
What are the 2 checks performed at flight power settings (101-102%) with the checklist stashed?
Hydraulic servo check - 1 inch aft, 2 inch forward, 2 inch aft)
Low rotor RPM check - lift collective slightly (~1”), roll off throttle gently, verify light and horn at 97%
POH 4-7
What is the initial shutdown procedure?
After stable on ground, collective full down, roll throttle off to 60-70%, Cyclic and collective frictions on, reset timer, set xponder to VFR, power off avionics and lights (except strobe)
POH 4-7
What is the final shutdown procedure?
(once blades have stopped turning and clutch light is extinguished)
Alternator off, battery off, ignition off
True or False
You can slow the rotor during shutdown by raising collective.
False.
The blades may flap and strike the tailcone
