What is a soliloquy?
During a play, characters talk to themselves out loud and some talk for quite a long time, therefore, revealing private thoughts and feelings.
What is an aside?
When the actor either speaks to himself or secretively to another character. Sometimes the actor speaks directly to the audience during this.
What is blank verse?
Poetry that does not rhyme, but displays iambic pentameter.
What is foreshadowing?
Hints to the audience/reader about what will happen next/later on in the story line.

The main character, who is a “good” person.
What is the antagonist?
The person/thing/force against the main character. Often this person/thing/force is depicted to be “evil” within the story.
What is so significant about the phrase “star-crossed lovers”? (Mentioned during class)
For the time period, it was appropriate for people to put their fate/destiny in the stars. If it was said a pair of lovers were “star-crossed,” this meant their stars aligned in a way that they crossed paths, therefore, meaning they were meant to cross paths in their earthly lives, as well. In short, they were meant to be.
What is an oxymoron?
A figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms are combined. Ex: clean mud
What is metaphor?
A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action, in comparison, without using the words “like” or “as” to make the comparison.
