Q

ayat ul kursi

A

The theme of this passage is Allah’s relationship with the Created World. It inculcates in us that Allah is One, Absolute and Eternal, the Maker of this universe and it’s sole Owner. Allah is the one who created this universe comprising of billions of galaxies, stars and planets single-handedly without interference from any quarter. He is devoid of any human weaknesses such as sleep whereas his creations are held back by these weaknesses, making them dependent on him. As Allah’s authority is shared with no-one, none can intercede in his court, even the most beloved of his prophets, unless he allows it. His knowledge is complete and all-encompassing, he knows the secrets of the universe as he designed it, he knows what is manifest and what is hidden, what has passed and what is yet to come. His creations are not aware of anything except what he allows them to be aware of because they do not have the level of intellect to understand the complex things he has created. His kingdom is large and grand, suitable to his Majesty and Might.
Now, the importance of this passage in the lives of Muslims today is firstly it entails a grand description of Allah’s lordship and his supreme power which makes us aware of his excellence and fills us with wonder at his omnipotence. Secondly, it assures us that there is no Lord besides Allah, the only one worthy of worship, so we learn the truth and the importance of accepting it, which is the providence of safety and sustenance. This verse inculcates a sense of self-awareness in us as we become alert to the fact that Allah is aware of not just our secrets but the secrets of the universe. It inspires us to educate ourselves by learning what Allah permits us to know.
Reciting this verse before sleeping ensures paradise if the reciter passes away in his sleep. Reciting it after prayers ensures protection till the next prayer.
“The Quran is a great word, and Surah Baqarah is the leader of the Quran and Ayat-ul-Kursi is the leader of Surah Baqarah.”

surah anaam

A

The theme of this passage is Allah’s relationship with the Created World. Allah is the one who created the heavens and the earth from the start by himself. He is the sole guardian of this world and he shares with no one his Lordship. He has no partners and no children. Allah is the All-Wise, the one with Supreme wisdom, the only one worthy of our worship. He has the power to handle all affairs as he is the Writer of Fates. He is the Unseen, the unfathomable and inaccessible to human perception whereas he is constantly able to witness our actions and intentions. Due to restrictions on our perception and understanding, we cannot fully comprehend the existence of a Lord with the unique attributes of Allah. However, we can find reflections and signs of him in his creations as he knows what he has fashioned.
The imp of this passage is that it refutes the atheist belief that the universe came into existence as the result of some accident or the christian belief that Jesus is Allah’s son. It clearly denies these beliefs as it confirms that the universe originated due to the will of Allah and that he does not have a son as he has no partner. Moreover, it inspires Muslims today to be self-aware and conscious of their actions as Allah surely has knowledge of all that they do. It educates us to worship Allah as he is our sole creator and the only one worthy of worship, which guides us to avoid shirk. As Allah is the only one with the power to handle all our affairs, it inspires us to have a firm trust in him and not be prey to overthinking or irrational fears. It also reminds us that while we cannot see Allah, he can see Allah so we must act in a noble manner and act witness to his existence even when we cannot physically evidence that. It also motivates us, as believers, to look for signs of Allah in his creations as he is acquainted with all that he has created, the relation being that of a Maker and that which he has made.
“He begets not, nor is he begotten and there is none like him.”
“There is nothing like Him and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.”

The theme of this is…
Allah’s eternal existence and his majesty can be derived from observing his creations which he made with purpose and excellence. Allah is the Maker of all the natural phenomena. He is the Lord of all celestial bodies which move by his command. He is the only one worthy of adoration, of love and submission from mankind. Pride in Allah’s court is forbidden. His praises should be said and his name glorified. It educates us that even if we do not worship him- it will make no difference in his might.
