Describe the compilation of Ahadith “Sunan Abu-Dawood”
A
It contains 4800 Ahadith and took twenty years in the compilation. It is ranked by many scholars as number three in the As-Sahih-As-Sittah Collections. After he finished compiling it, he showed his work to his teacher, Ahmed bin Hanbal who was greatly pleased by the work. It does contain some Za’eef (weak) Ahadith. The reasoning behind including these in the compilation might be that Abu Dawood believed they were more reliable than the personal legal opinions of scholars. Abu Dawood mostly had one or two Ahadith in a chapter. Although there were a larger number of authentic Ahadith available on a certain topic, he recorded those which he believed could be used easily.
